I read that one of the best ways to stay on budget is plan, plan, plan. I hope to hire a contractor that can give me a detailed quote of the construction costs. Once I have that, it will be easier to choose the materials that we will use. Roofing, siding, windows, flooring, lighting, cupboards, plumbing fixtures, hardware… the devil is in the detail.
I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t plan on settling for “builder grade” everything. I will splurge on some things, the question is what? Will we splurge on standing seam metal roofing in slate grey or will we settle for asphalt shingles? Will we splurge on real hardwood floors or save some by installing some of the newer textured wood look laminates?
I love planning and decorating and I have until April 2018 to research, compare, change my mind and curate the list of materials that we will use in the construction of our home on Salt Marsh. For a closer look at some of the material we’re considering, hover over “THE MATERIALS” on the menu bar at the top of the page to access the drop down menu
